Woman arrested in Dollar General embezzlement

Saturday, December 15
A woman was arrested in Clarke County Wednesday for embezzlement at a local Dollar General. Latina Nixon was an employee at the Shubuta store. Chief Deputy Barry White says the store’s loss prevention department noticed Nixon was letting customers walk away with thousands of dollars in merchandise. White says the investigation is ongoing, and they’re still trying to determine how much was embezzled from the store. Nixon was released on a $2,500 bond. Man sentenced for stealing veteran’s benefits

Tierun Bush, 56, of Jackson, was sentenced Thursday to serve 36 months in federal prison for aggravated identity theft and theft of government funds and property. Bush must also make full restitution. U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst says Bush used the name SSN and other identifiers of a military veteran to fraudulently receive narcotics, medical care, medical equipment, and housing assistance from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. East Central Community College in Decatur has closed all offices for the Christmas holidays. Offices will reopen Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019.
